Our Commitment to Ethical and Human-Centred AI Use in Publishing
At Grift Education, we are committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within our publishing practices. Our approach is informed by the principles and guidelines established by prominent national and international organisations, including:
- The Australian Publishers Association (APA): Advocating for the protection of creators' rights, informed consent, and the promotion of human creativity in the face of evolving AI technologies.
- Australia’s AI Ethics Principles: Emphasising values such as human-centredness, fairness, privacy protection, and accountability in the development and use of AI systems.
- The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE): Providing guidance on the responsible use of AI tools in scholarly publishing, including the necessity for transparency and the prohibition of AI tools being listed as authors.
- The Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi): Offering ethical and practical guidelines for authors on the use of AI, stressing the importance of maintaining human creativity and responsibility.
- By aligning with these respected bodies, we ensure that our use of AI technologies enhances the publishing process without compromising the integrity, originality, and accountability that are the hallmarks of quality educational content.
Our Guiding Principles for the use of AI are:
Human Authorship at the Centre
We publish work that originates from human insight and creativity. AI tools may assist in the development process, but the substance and originality must come from the author.
Transparency of AI Use
We ask all authors to disclose whether and how AI has been used in their work. Transparency ensures editorial integrity and fair assessment.
Subject to Review
Any AI-assisted submissions will be subject to human editorial review to ensure they meet our standards of originality, relevance and authorial voice.
Informed Consent for AI Training
We will never license or provide published content for AI model training without the clear, informed consent of the author.
Responsible Use in Production
Any AI tools used in our editorial or promotional workflows will be deployed with human oversight and ethical safeguards. We do not use AI to replace human judgment, but to support it.
Respect for Copyright, Privacy and Fairness
Our use of AI - like our expectations of authors - respects intellectual property rights, personal privacy, and fairness. AI will never be used to mimic authors without permission or generate uncredited content.
Commitment to Evolving Standards
We actively monitor developments in regulation, technology and professional standards to ensure our policies remain current, fair, and forward-looking.
Above all, we believe that the power of education lies in authentic human insight. As publishers, we are stewards of that insight - and we embrace AI only in ways that enhance, never replace, the voice of the educator.
